Message from our Research Officer
Hi, I am Fiona Jones and I'd like to explain my research officer role within the group. I
have to say that my title covers my role in the extent that I research the latest information on ME as best I can as well as finding information on specific areas that I am asked about.
I also see my role as educational to the extent of breaking scientific blurb into English as well as increasing our members understanding and usage of correct medical terminology so they are not bamboozled by the medical profession.
I am not the only member who looks at the latest research, Margaret, Adrian and Karen for example often brings interesting articles to our attention.
I am also the realist since I was in the medical profession [Registered Nurse] for over 23 yrs before I became ill with ME. I do believe that one needs all the information one can get to make informed decisions. Especially when an illness is so little understood and little true ‘diagnosis’, ‘treatment’ and ‘prognosis’ exist.
My role is also supportive of Barbara, Janet and Margaret in their roles, and the hopes of the group for our future growth and ability to help more people with ME and their carers. Also in support of the Youth Group I recently visited with them, see my article 'My first visit to the Youth Group'.
The research and recognition happening at this time is a good step forward, but there is a long way to go.
So I will keep learning and providing information and support where I can.
I welcome enquires from our members and anybody else who would like help or advice about CFS/ME. Please email me
